Malaysia's exports in April rose 26.6% on year to RM52.03 billion, lifted by higher shipments of electrical and electronic (E&E) products while imports climbed 27% to RM42.8 billion.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said on Friday, June 4 that total trade in April expanded by 26.7% to RM94.83 billion from a year ago. The trade surplus was RM9.22 billion, which was the 150th consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1977. However, the exports and import in April fell from a year ago. On-month, exports fell 12.4% while imports declined 5.1%. Total trade fell 9.3%. He said the on-year increase in exports in April was due to higher exports of E&E products which increased by 21.6% or RM3.67 billion; crude petroleum (93% or RM1.35 billion); chemicals and chemical products (26.2% or RM698.1 million). |
