Golf in Malaysia

Malaysia is a golfing hotbed with over 200 courses and you can either enjoy a round in the cool hills or play by the sea or near the tea plantations.

Two of the top courses in the country are The Country Club and The Saujana Golf & Country Club, both of which offer the very best in luxury - both on and off the course. The former is part of the magnificent Mines Resort City. Dubbed the 'Seven Wonders of Malaysia', it sprawls over 1000 acres and has been crafted from the world's largest open cast tin mine.

Situated less than half an hour from the centre of Kuala Lumpur and just over 30 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the Country Club's course was designed by Robert Trent Jones. It earned exposure all over the globe in 1999 when staging the World Cup of Golf - Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara lifted the title for the USA - and has since hosted the Malaysian Open.

Saujana Golf & Country Club is another gem, this particular one having been designed by Ronald Fream. Bukit Unggul Country Club in Selangor is another Fream creation and here he has cleverly used the matural terrain of the valleys and hills to produce a challenging yet enjoyable adventure.

Trent Jones designed Bukit Jambul Country Club in Penang and the tenth hole on this coure has been described as the 'most beautiful in Malaysia'. Desaru Golf & Country Club is also the work of Trent Jones and has been carved out of 300 acres of forestland bordering the long sandy beaches of the South China Sea. Other courses well worth a visit include Bangi Golf Resort in Selangor and Fraser's Hill Golf & County Club in Pahang, where the course has been designed by Rodger Davis, the colourful Australian professional who is now playing on the Champions' Tour in America.

The Royal Selangor Golf Club

Established in 1893, The Royal Selangor Golf Club is the premier golf club in Malaysia and one of the best in the region. The RSGC, as it is popularly known, has a long and illustrious history and has played a most prominent role in the evolution of the game of golf in the country. Over the years, the Club's development has grown with the progress of the nation and its society. Today, the Club is home to over 6000 Members comprising Royalty, Cabinet Ministers, foreign diplomats, corporate leaders, captains of industries, professionals and ordinary persons from different walks of life. A hallmark of quality and excellence is synonymous with this august Club and being one of the oldest and established clubs in the country, maintaining standards and code of excellence has always been its core principles and values. The membership reflects this and having been host to many international golf tournaments, further testifies and confirms the Club's very high standing in the golfing world.

The beautifully landscaped 45-hole parkland golf course paints a captivating scenery with an abundance of mature trees, some of which are a hundred years old or more. Flora and fauna co-exist in perfect harmony as Nature beckons from the sanctuary of wildlife habitat in the vicinity. An enchanting view to behold on the green canvas to the sounds of bird chirping, friendly monkeys accompanying the golfers and the occasional glimpses of the iguanas traversing the grounds. Amid the pulse of the city, the serene atmosphere of the Club is easily accessible from all part of Kuala Lumpur and outskirts through a well-developed infrastructure.

Being the only golf club located right in the heart of the city, the RSGC is a green lung and a great place for enjoyment and great relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In an idyllic sanctuary of lush greenery and picturesque setting like this, the golfing experience is truly a pleasurable one. The 45-hole golf course comprises two 18-hole courses and a short 9-hole course. The immaculately maintained Old Course is a championship course which has been the venue for many international golf tournaments. Apart from golf, Members enjoy a full array of sporting facilities comprising a driving range, tennis courts (hard, lawn and artificial courts), swimming pools (one Olympic size & two children's pools), squash courts, gymnasium, billiards room & games rooms.

To cater for a full-day activities, the Clubhouse has a complete list of facilities and amenities. There are restaurants, food & beverage outlets be it for dining pleasure or a quick snack , a well-stocked Pro Shop, reading room, barber shop, ladies' salon, changing rooms with full amenities, children's playroom and many others.

For relaxation and recreation, group classes and lessons are aplenty ranging from social dancing to health-improvement exercises to meet various interests and age groups.
