The Malaysian Government welcomes people from many countries to live in Malaysia under the Malaysia My Second Home Programme (MM2H) which grants a social visit pass, valid for up to ten years and which comes with a Multiple Entry Visa so you can come and go as you please. Currently UK nationals do not need a Visa to enter Malaysia. 
Applications under the Malaysia My Second Home programme are designed to be as straight-forward as possible and can be made when either inside or outside the country, but of course, you must be in the country legally to apply when already in Malaysia.
